The Very Real Voter Fraud in America: Blocking The Vote
GOP: Don't Rock The Vote, Block The Vote!
There is very real voter fraud in America today. This very real voter fraud is the coordinated GOP effort, in over thirty GOP governed states, to block Americans from voting, by any means necessary. Whether it is the attempt to eliminate early voting or the passage of restrictive voter ID laws, these actions are meant to keep certain American citizens away from the polls and out of the voting booths. If you are an American citizen and you live in one of these states, when you try to cast your ballot for the 2012 election, you may be one of the millions in this country who could be turned away, according to the Brennan Center for Justice.
In 2006, Karl Rove (Bush's brain) and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) devised a plan to affect and change outcomes of elections in battleground states. That plan was well-coordinated and well-funded. It was designed, not to stop any illegal voters, but to make it difficult, if not impossible for a certain type of American to vote; to keep certain types of Americans out of the voting booths.
Just who are these very frightening American voters that Rove, ALEC and some Republicans find so dangerous? They are minorities, the elderly, the disabled and students. Why are these citizens so scary? The answer is simple: Historically, they vote in large numbers for Democrats and NOT Republicans. In swing states, a few voters can make the difference. If only they would vote the way that ALEC and Rove want them to vote...
According to the Brennan Center, the sixteen states that have passed the most restrictive voting laws in the last two years are:
- Pennsylvania
- New Hampshire
- Ohio
- West Virginia
- Virginia
- Tennessee
- South Carolina
- Georgia
- Mississippi
- Florida
- Illinois
- Iowa
- Texas
- Kansas
- Wisconsin
- South Dakota
In Pennsylvania alone, almost one million Americans lack the necessary paperwork to meet the new requirements that would allow them to vote this year. That's right! ONE MILLION legitimate voters! Even more significant is the fact that these sixteen states account for over 240 electoral votes.
There is literally no epidemic of voter impersonation in this country. The statistics of illegal voting are so minimal, that, according to the Brennan Center, the odds of being struck by lightning are higher.
Courts are starting to intervene, but the intervention may be too little, too late. Potential voters are confused. They are confused about when and where they can vote, what documents are required to vote, or even if they will be allowed to vote.
Sadly, many of the Americans who are going to be turned away at the polls this year are not yet even aware that they have lost their voice, their right to vote. They may not know, until they show up at the polls, that they have had their right to vote stripped, that they have been disenfranchised.
The right to vote is the one thing we have, as a nation, that separates us from the rest of the world and the people who have played a role in this massive effort to suppress the vote should be held to answer. It is these legislators and shadowy, corrupt groups like ALEC, to which they all belong-- these are the real frauds!
These are the people who are committing the real voter fraud in America and they should be prosecuted.
It should not matter what political party you belong to, or who you plan to vote for. As an American, you have a duty to defend the voting rights of your fellow Americans. It is the one thing on which we should all agree. If we don't, our Constitution doesn't matter, our principles are compromised, and we are a nation that has devolved into bigots and fools.
