Act Like A Lady? Just What Do You Mean, Congressman West?
Allen West On Acting Like A Lady!
I was offended by GOP Congressman Allen West's email to Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D). As a woman, I was mortified that a fellow elected representative would act in such a disrespectful manner to his fellow colleague. Part of the email is reprinted here:
" Look, Debbie, I understand that I after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. You are the most vile, unprofessional and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up."
Additionally West said that Ms. Wasserman-Schultz has proven that "you are not a lady" and "shall not be afforded due respect from me!!" He also sent copies of the email to several members of the House and Senate "alerting them to her heinous characterless behavior!"
Mr. West, Just How Is A Lady Supposed To Act?
Mr. West,
Please inform me what is required when 'acting like a lady'? Give me the benefit of your expertise, because obviously, you know more than I do. I am a woman, but obviously I have missed the charm school classes. And by calling someone 'vile', what is it that you hope to accomplish?
I heard Ms Wasserman's speech on the floor of the House. I found it neither vile or rude in any manner. The Congresswoman simply pointed out the difference between your views and hers. She did go a little bit further when she questioned your decision to abandon the needs of the Senior population in your district. But, if you can defend that position, it should not be a problem.
Are you, by way of your email, suggesting that 'ladies' should remain silent? 'Ladies' should defer to your opinions without question? I don't know where you have been, Mr. West, but 'ladies' vote, have opinions and are free to express them. If you find that distasteful, vile, despicable or unprofessional, then that is a problem that you should come to terms with. Seek professional help, if you must, but in any event, seek help!
Sincerely,
Jillian Barclay
P.S. I will be waiting for your guidelines on "How To Act Like A Lady!"
Allen West Needs To Act Like A Congressman, Not A Misogynist!
Regardless of political persuasion, Mr. West must step back, examine the roots of his temper tantrum and deal with the issues, period!
I have emailed Congressman West. I received a generic email thanking me for contacting him, but it gave no explanation for the insulting and clearly unprofessional manner in which he has approached and attacked a female colleague. He must apologize!
